Kitchen Drawer Storage Details

Anyone else been sorting, bleaching, and cleaning since Covid hit?! Oh, and you’ve been ordering a ton of stuff online too, right? SAAAME!

In this interesting time of history, sometimes tackling the things you CAN control is the most therapeutic thing you can do. That said, I paired my anxiousness with my compulsive need to clean things into a reeeeeal kitchen organization overhaul. I had so many sweet direct messages with some useful tips and tricks in addition to other product recommendations that I ended up ordering. Now it’s time to break it all down so you can whip your kitchen into shape, too.

First up was the our kitchen drawers. In particular, our spice drawer… Please don’t judge me, haha. Here is the before:

Variety is the spice of life

I can’t believe we lived with it like this for so long! YIKES!

I started by ordering matching glass spice jars so that it looked really uniform. It comes with a super helpful funnel that helps you transfer the spices into its new home. Next, I’ve wanted to order the DYMO label maker for years (yes, I’m that old) and this was the perfect time to pull the trigger. (I’ve since used it ALL over my house and in my office, it’s really simple and old school) I love the look of the labels, too! Rather than use the stickers that come with them… This is next level and not necessary - lol. Also, because my spices are in a drawer I ordered an expandable spice rack so I would be able to utilize the space as best as possible. There are tons of other options if that’s not how your kitchen is laid out. Here is one for the pantry I considered. Lastly, I ordered a food packet organizer for all my taco seasonings + ranch dips, ya know. And drum roll…

Is this not calming?!

IS THIS NOT LIFE?! For me it’s everrrrrything! I literally just keep walking by the drawer and opening it and staring at it. My husband (who is a closet clean freak) has also been thoroughly impressed. He thought that I threw out a bunch of stuff, but I actually just condensed a lot of the same spices and moved some oils/hot sauces and things out that no longer belonged there. Cooking is now so much easier now that we can see everything.

While I’m showing you all the embarrassing messy things in my kitchen, here is what our utensil drawers looked like before (I promise my before photos will be better on the next project LOL):

Reorganization is LIFE

Why did I have SO MANY to-go plastic utensils?! For the record - we used ALL of the napkins instead of paper towels for the last month and I’m delighted that they’re GONE! Anyway, I ordered a few “refrigerator” bins for the pantry and ended up using one here for my serving utensils. This size wasn’t the right length for the larger cooking tools so I ordered these longer organizers. I considered getting these drawer dividers, which would have been easier, but I’m now very addicted to having everything in a specific place (no rolling around!).

I’m OBSESSED

I could have bought 100 more organizing items to use but since Home Goods is still closed, this will work for now. I plan on adding a few more as I find storage that will fit the last remaining specific areas and I will probably replace a couple of these kitchen tools now that I can actually see them. Most of my utensils (including Kitchen Aid) are from Ross/Marshalls.

If you enjoyed this, follow me on instagram @gratefully_home. I’m constantly sharing my deep dives into organization, cleaning, and painting to stay sane. Recently, I’ve been working on my pantry - once I get everything in order I’ll be sure to include links to all the fun stuff I use to organize in there as well. For many reasons - I highly recommend this as your next project, stay well!

With Gratitude, Lauren
